Marius the giraffe: Copenhagen Zoo staff get death threats

I never thought of the word Denmark and savages going together, but I do now.  How can a culture in what I thought was an advanced society flaunt the slaughter of a beautiful animal and the zoo and parents allow children to witness the dissection and feeding of Marius to the big cats?

They call it education?  They’re using inbreeding as an excuse (then why didn’t they prevent his birth to begin with)?  They compare a giraffe to deer (wow, no one in my area has ever had a giraffe in their yard).  And I also love deer, but they are not heading towards extinction - yet.

The zoo official tries to convince us that this is like natural selection in the wild.  Yet Marius didn’t get the chance to live his life in the wild. Maybe he would have ended up as lion food, maybe he could have grown old.  He didn’t have that chance, by the hands of humans.

Meat eaters are being told that this is no different than what they do.  I love all animals and I wish those for human consumption were treated more humanely, but it isn’t the same.  I love cows, pigs, bison, fowl, etc., but they are raised for this purpose and they’re not on the edge of extinction.  Farm animals aren’t on public display from birth where people admire, love them and pay to see them, only to be slaughtered in front of those same people because they took up space and are considered surplus animals.

What really makes me think and shake my head is how surprised the zoo seems to be at the worldwide outrage.  They can’t understand what the big deal is.  How do parents allow young children, who don’t know any better, watch such blood and guts - a zoo animal that was once beloved (I would think) being cut up and fed to other animals in public?

They think this is education?  If I had witnessed such a thing as a child it would still be embedded in my head.  What does this say about the culture of Denmark? I am so perplexed and outraged, and I’m not alone.

This country is getting scratched off my bucket list.

Orland Park Real Estate is wearing a new coat!  It’s now more functional, even though I loved how it looked before.  The new look is now fully mobile responsive, and that’s why I had to change it.

A bonus is the large font that can be read by people like me!  It still has the same home search so if you’ve already created and/or saved a search, nothing will change except the look of the site and how it appears and works on your cellphone.

Do you need to live near public transportation?  Walk Score has a list of the top 5 cities  based on transit score rankings.  See where Chicago public transportation falls on their ranking scale.  There is also a link to their ranking methodology.
Walk Score is becoming more popular to help people decide where they want to live.  In the southwest Chicago suburbs we know we have to use a car to get most places, but some people want to live as close to a train station as possible.  There have been several condo and townhouse complexes built within walking distance to the trains in our area.
When I purchased my Scottsdale AZ townhouse I was curious as to where grocery stores were located, but I actually used Google maps to see how close the pool was to each unit and deleted those where the walk was too far.  We found a place steps away from the pool.  You can’t waste your time looking at properties that won’t work when you’ve only got days to search and make a decision.

Our winter weather, with all the cold, ice and snow, has definitely made selling Orland Park real estate a hazardous job!  My car sliding through a red light (and I was driving like a slow old granny), an agent calling to warn me about icy sidewalks (possibly saved me from breaking some bones), vacant homes where no one shoveled, having to climb snowdrifts to get to lockboxes, canceled appointments - what fun!
